Pichu Love

It has been a long time for an update, I made this super adorable Pichu ornament for my friend a few weeks ago. I want to give this ornament a sweet and girly feel, the concept is a garden of pink roses with two Pichus sitting in the middle. I wasn't very confident at first because I don't make figurines often and this would only be my second time making them,  it took me a while to figure out how to make and I had to study this  character well in order to make it as realistic as possible.  Love these cuties!

I took photos of my work process:

 Here I made two basic shapes, and then add the other features. 

I painted the features on after the clay hardens after 2-3 days, I am not good with these, the facial expressions took me 3 hours to do. 

 I prepared a large piece of balsa wood for the base, cut into a heart shape and chose a baby pink colour and made the border. 

Finally, adjust the roses and put the two adorable glazed figurines in!~ >v<

I personally think I did a good job with these, it was beyond my expectation within such a short time. I love the colour and the overall composition, it's very girly and pink! It makes me happy by just looking at them.

Clay Roses - A quick walkthrough

I have been making a lot of roses these days for this coming Valentine's Day, roses are one of the most challengeable objects for myself to make. My journey into rose making started mid last year when I saw beautiful handcrafted realistic roses made from clay online and I was really amazed by this beautiful piece of art. So I told myself to give it a try, I started making miniature roses but they weren't pretty at first. I went through a lot of research and gathered all the useful tips, finally I am happy with what I have achieved and discovered and now would like to share them. This is just a quick walkthrough/ tutorial because it was also my first trial out for a larger scale rose, and I just took photos of my steps. I hope you find this helpful, please leave a comment if you would like to share your own experience in making clay roses.

This is the rose that I made for this quick walkthrough, I did not know where to hang it to air dry... the drawer handle was the last option I could think of. 

You will need :

Cold Porcelain clay (you can colour this clay using acrylic colour)

Wire stick to hold the rose 

Chop stick

Wax paper/ cooking paper

Rolling pin

First, curl the wire into a small loop and shape a tear drop with your clay. 

 Place a small ball onto the cooking paper. 

 Roll into a thin oval as a petal for your rose. You need to repeat this step many times, the petal will become larger as you work through. 

 Hold the petal lightly, use the weight of the chopstick to roll around the edges of the oval shape. 

 This is what it should look like, the top of the petal should be thin. 

 Press your thumb gently in the middle of the petal to create an 'U' shape, and curl the top of the petal backwards using your fingertips. 

 Wrap 3 petals around the tear shape to create the flower bud.

 The trick to make roses is that you need to warp the petal starting from the middle of the previous petal. The two petals will over lap each other. 

 Start wrapping the rose in a pattern. Work in one direction only. 

 The side view. The rose should be tightly pressed at the bottom and let the petal 'fall down' naturally. 

 You can also pinch the middle of each petal between your thumb and second finger lightly to make it look more realistic.

Pink Sweetheart Doll House [Part 3]

Finally finished the house! I love the windows and it's overhangs. 

Internal spaces, I dont like the wooden flooring right in front of the foor. 

Had fun making these, I feel like a gardener. ^_^

Very smart to use beads to make them look like fruit. 

So much effort to make these little cups!

These cups are very very small, it was difficult to glue the handle on. 

I really like the print, but making the chair and sofa was so time consuming and tiring. 

These are the parts for the chair.

I always wanted a white piano. 

The shelf is not finished, still a lot of decorations to make ( plates, cups and books)

Not a good flash shot, I love the sofa and the chair. It was really difficult to make these because you have to wrap it so tight and still allow the stuffing inside to puff up.

Pink Sweetheart Doll House [Part 2]

Last post I introduced this doll house kit, so now let's get started! I had a thought about making the furniture first but then I think it' better to have the whole house up first and then make the furniture, that way I can easily place them on to the house without having them randomly sitting on my table waiting to be placed.  I will be making Bag A which includes the walls, roof and the exterior decoration.

 The walls are very simple, basically just cut both of the sides and glue them. 

 Glue stick does the best job because it is not sticky and watery like PVA and craft glue. It made the surface look very smooth. 

 Finished all the walls!

Pieces for the doors and, windows, and posts. 

 I love the little door hinges!

 Thought glueing them on first would help me screw the bolts later. 

 It actually worked!!! ^v^ The door can swing~

 Had a tough time with the windows, all the pieces look the same size, had to group them... aiii

 Took me so long to place them together. 

 Really happy with the results, and really impressed with the kit that only one was missing, I can easily make one with balsa wood. 

 They look pretty on the walls. 

 Assembled the ground floor. 

 Trailing out the second floor. 

Not glued yet, but this is an overall image of the house. Looks good!

I will go continue making the house now, hopefully I can finish the structure by today and make the furniture tomorrow!

New Pastels

Finally I am free!! I handed in my last assignment in today, from now on I am now going to enjoy my Christmas holiday ^_^~ While I was procrastinating from my work I made these clay pieces, I think I am addicted to these pastel colours. Since Christmas is coming up, I want to create a candy theme collection. This was my first time trying the colour mint, I wasn't sure how to mix it at first because cold porcelain dries to a darker shade when cured. However I am pleased with the result, the colour looks very refreshing.

Not sure if I should introduce another colour to this pallet, yellow... blue? 

I made 20 of these little ribbons, so tired afterwards...

Pink and Purple sure goes very well together, I am very girly after all ^v^ hehehe~ 

 Such pretty clover! Next time 4 leaves!

 I am not sure which one looks better, the design on the right or left. Which one do you think looks good? 

So this is the overall shot, I will make more earrings using the stuff here.
